GUTTI / Nelson take 2nd Overall at American Triple T

The American Triple T is the first and only triathlon stage race in the nation.  Made up of 4 races (Sprint on Fri, 2x Olympic Distance Races on Sat, Half Ironman on Sun) over the brutal hills of the Ohio River Valley.  In the highly competitive team division GUTTI/Nelson stormed out the gate with a 1st / 3rd place finish in the rain soaked sprint.  The following morning they continued to put time into the 5x defending champions with a 1st / 8th place finish in the morning Olympic distance race.  After 12 hrs of cumulative racing GUTTI / Nelson secured 2nd place with 1st a mere 3min ahead and 3rd place a close 4min back.  Look out for 2009 and another exciting battle out on the fire and country roads of Portsmouth, Ohio.

GUTTI partners with Spira Footwear

After taking 2nd place at the American Triple T a new upstart shoes company has partnered with Lance Panigutti.  Spira's outside the box approach and controversial racing shoes were a natural fit for GUTTI's personality and racing style.  Spira's™ patented WaveSpring™ technology may be the most significant advancement ever achieved in the footwear industry.*

WaveSpring™ returns energy with every step.
Ray Fredericksen, president of Sports Biomechanics, Inc. compares typical midsole materials found in many athletic shoes to running in sand. While initially perceived as soft and comfortable, these shoes require the wearer to exert greater effort. Muscles must work harder, causing fatigue and increasing the risk of injury.

Unlike traditional shoe midsoles made primarily of foams, rubber compounds, or polymers, WaveSpring™ technology stores and disburses energy with every step. Testing performed by an independent source reports that 87% - 96% of the energy is returned from the WaveSpring™. This is the highest energy return score for any midsole material ever tested.**

GUTTI will continue to Forge Ahead on Paketa's NEW TT Magnesium Bike in 2008

After riding aluminum and carbon bike for 6 years GUTTI was convinced there had to be a frame material out there that incorporated the ride of carbon with the stiffness of aluminum.  3 years ago he found that revolutionary bike builder in his own back yard of Boulder, CO - PAKETA BIKES.  This will be the 3rd year of a very successful partnership and when asked about the future all GUTTI has to say is, "Simple, I wouldn't ride any other bike out there or trust any mag frame in the world not made by Paketa."

GUTTI Takes 2nd Solo at 24 Hrs of Triathlon Worlds

Recap - Prior to the race, and for the first 10 hours of the competition, all the attention/media was on a long-course pro specialist. Being an Olympic format short course specialist, the odds were against Lance to hold up over the distance. 14 hours into the race it became a 2-man battle between Lance, and the long-course pro, Joe McDaniel. Everyone thought he would crack come nightfall. The pace they set was so intense for the first half of the day that if they held strong, both of them would finish 45 miles farther than last year’s world record mark of 215 miles. After racing on the edge for 19hrs Lance was determined to make a push to close the gap and give NBC/media/spectators the race they were hoping for. With 3 hours to go, the gap was steadily shrinking and "I am proud to say I became the crowd favorite underdog". Maybe it was the sheer look of determination in his eyes or the utter exhaustion throughout his body, but the crowd energized him through those last 3 hours. With 2 hours to go, the race was still up for grabs. Lance's pit crew was getting worried that his body would collapse at any moment. NBC started following his every move thinking the same thing — especially when he could barely climb out of the water following the 20th swim. In the end, Joe McDaniel took the victory with 21 complete sprint triathlons in 24 hours and Lance finished 2nd with 20 complete sprint triathlons — total mileage was 10.5 miles swim, 188 miles bike, 56 miles run (overall that was 40 miles over last year’s world record mark).
